This doesn't have to be like the Super Bowl where you're picking teams. They both fill an incredibly important role in this culture war that is being fought right now. I sincerely hope that this whole thing blows over soon, and I wish the best for both Crowder and The Daily Wire. But at the surface level, both "sides" are a little right and a little wrong. I get that there's more to it than that, and there's probably a lot more that we don't see happening behind the scenes. In this extended interview, Dave Bittner sits down with Elliott Champion from CSCs team joins to discuss their research on how cybercriminals are taking advantage of the Threads platform. Crowder does the exact same thing, except he does it with a bit more snark and he's a lot more vulgar, which is the reason why he gets suspended from YouTube so frequently. This interview from September 8th, 2023 originally aired as a shortened version on the CyberWire Daily Podcast. There are intelligent people at The Daily Wire who offer wonderful insights into our society and culture. You don't have to like The Daily Wire to see that they shouldn't be the sole responsible party should advertisers drop out. You don't have to like Crowder to see that the contract wouldn't necessarily be in his best interest, given his reputation with being canceled and attacked by the woke mob. It's unfair for any business to simply suck it up when an employee causes them to lose revenue.īoth The Daily Wire and Crowder are amazing, worthwhile, and intelligent. That means that he's going to be deplatformed, attacked, the woke mob is going to try to cancel him, and advertisers are going to think that they can't do business with him simply for saying "I am a Conservative." At the same time, The Daily Wire shouldn't be asked to eat lost revenue solely by themselves. It wouldn't matter if Crowder was the biggest Good Boy on the entire internet, he's a conservative. Should The Daily Wire be offering contracts that punish Conservative commentators for things that happen to Conservative commentators every time they blink or sneeze? Absolutely not. At the same time, he's standing up for independent content creators and defending their right to offend and be offensive to the mainstream media, and leftists in general. It'll probably drive away any potential commentators and content creators from The Daily Wire in the future, which isn't a good thing at all. Should Crowder have gone public with the contract? Maybe not. Both sides raise incredibly valid points here, and both sides have done things maybe they shouldn't have. If we're picking sides, and dividing amongst ourselves into an "us versus them" mentality, then we're done and the leftists have won. Of course there are two sides here, so picking aside seems incredibly easy and almost like the right thing to do.
